Nelum Jayasinghe a Lankan domiciled in the USA donated 1,000 reading glasses to Arogya Foundation for the disabled.This Programm was co-ordinated by Chief incumbent of Saddharmaramaya,Polwaththa Pannipitiya Ven.Udahamulle Saranapala thera. The donation was made by the mother of Nelum Jayasinghe to the Ven.Udahamulle Saranapala Thera at Polwaththa Temple. The reading glasses were distributed among the needy in area.

A group of Singapore Buddhist donete Rs. 150 000/- for equipments among selected disabled children in Sri Lanka in a programme coducted under the supervision of Most Ven.Thalagala Sumanarathana thero, the contributions were made by Mr.Goh Kim Hua, Madam Sng Choon Eng, Madam Ang Geok Mui, Mr Chen Song Xing, Madam Zhuo Feng, Mr Guo Xu Fan, Madam Chen Gui Luan, Madam Ho Lai Choon, Madam Kee Hui Chu and friends of Kah Motor Singapore.
The cheque is presented to Director General of the Arogya Foundation Ven. Unapana Ariyadhamma by Ven. Waduruppe Rewatha Rresident monk of Sri Lanka Buddhist vihara in kaula lampur. Also in picture Jayantha Kelegana ,President College Minuwangoda. Mr . Jagath Sumathipala was the Chief Guest at the ceremony organized by the Arogya Foundation to donate wheel-chairs to the physically impaired held at Nalanda Ramaya, Pathiragoda in Maharagama.The Ceremony was sponsored by All Ceylon Buddhist Congress.
10 wheel chairs were donated by Mr Jagath Sumathipala and lots of other equipment were donated by Singaporean donors including Mr Goh Kim Hua and Madam Sng Choon Eng. Polwaththa Sri Sadhdharmadhipathi Rajakeeya Panditha Udahamulle Saranapala thera said it was duty of all Buddhists to assist Ariyadhamma thera to set up a hospital for the disabled. Singaporean Nurosurgeon Dr.Prem Pillay of Mount Elizabeth and Gleneagers Medical Centre and Dev Akbar of Comden Medical Centre had already volunteered to serve in Sri Lanka periodically, when the rehabilitation centre was ready. Ven Unapana Ariyadhamma Thera said that it would cost much to get treatment in Singapore and he had decided to build a centre get the services of Singaporean Doctors. But he said the problem was to find suitable land to build the centre. Many Patients from all over the island had made requests for wheel chairs, walking sticks, and artificial limbs from the Arogya Foundation. Unfortunately the foundation did not enough resources to supply them.He appealed to donors here and abroad to help the institution fulfil its needs. Sumith Bandara Medawala and Ms Padma Medawala volunteered to help the foundation in this regard. It was also mentioned that the Most Ven. B. Dhammaratana, Ven Dr. Weragoda Sarada and Ven Dr. K Gunarathana had contributed a lot fot the welfare of the foundation. The Chairman of the Arogya Foundation Prof. Ariyapala Perera organized the ceremony. Pandith Amaradewa, Mrs Wimala Amaradewa, Anura Edirisinghe, Co- Secretary of All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, Sunil Sarath Kuragama, Deputy Chairman Dr. Pranith Abeysundara and Pradeep Liyanage were also present. |
